You will have heard of the Blue bar that divides stamina and health if you’ve played FromSoft games for a while. This bar is often overlooked by most people, but it is vital in Elden Ring. It is FP, and is the foundation of all your magic and skill uses. You won’t be able do much if you have a low FP bar.
Why should you increase your FP?
You can increase your FP for many reasons. First, it allows you to use your skills more often. The best weapon skills in the game are the ones that you can choose from. There are so many options, from Ash and War to Special weapon skills.
You can also use Magic. If you’ve never played a Mage character before, FP will be how you fight your enemies. To be able deal damage and cast spells, you will need a lot of FP. Some spells require so much FP you will need to refill your bar each time you use them.
When it comes to upgrading your FP, make sure you understand what you are doing. This is an important aspect that you should not overlook, even if your Magic build doesn’t include it.
There are only four ways to increase your FP, and not all of them will last. You can increase your Mind attribute, use FP boosting Talismans, locate specific Crystal Tears to your Physick, and use items that reduce FP usage. Each of these are very important, especially if your Mage build is one.
You will quickly run out of FP if you don’t have skills or increase your FP. You should always have extra FP in case you need it. You should always monitor your FP to ensure you don’t get in a situation where it isn’t needed.
Simple ways to increase your FP
Your FP will be used more in this game than any other FromSoft game. There are only four ways to increase your FP. Some of these options only last for a short time. You should not waste these consumables.
These are the best ways to increase your FP.
1. Use FP-boosting Talismans
You can have up to 4 FP Talismans. You should do your research to find the best Talismans for you. If you get hit often, the Talismans that reduce other stats are probably not what you want.
If you don’t want to have debuffs, you can use the Talismans to give you all the bonuses. It is best to base your entire build around FP, so you don’t miss out on any of the benefits.
This is a list all the FP-boosting Talismans:
- Cerulean seed Talisman –Boosts FP Restoration from Flask Of Cerulean Tears
- Cerulean Amber Medallion – Raises maximum FP
- Marika’s Scarseal – Increases damage, mind, intelligence, faith and arcane.
- The Big Hat of the Preceptor – Enhances mind to the detriment and decreases stamina
- Navy Hood- Increases Mind
- Assassin’s Cerulean Dagger Critical hits restoreFP
- Glintstone scarab – Reduces damage taken by sorceries but increases FP consumed
2. Items that reduce FP usage are recommended
Talismans are a variety of items that can decrease your FP flask usage. One of the Crystal Tears that can be used to reduce physick flask usage has been mentioned before. A Talisman can reduce FP usage by 20% and is one of the most valuable items in the game. It is found in front of Caria Manor.
You will need to defeat two bosses to unlock the item in his shop. Once you have it, you can purchase it from him at 5,000 Runes. It is worth the investment, I promise. These are the best items to reduce FP usage if you have to many.
3. You can find specific Crystal Tears to help you Physick
The Flask of Wonderous Physick is a Flask that you might not have seen. This flask is basically the same as the others, but you can personalize it with items from around the globe.
A crystal can stop the decrease in FP for up to 15 seconds, and another crystal fills half your bar with FP. There are two crystals that you can find and fill your entire bar with each drink. Each rest only allows you to have one drink, so it is important to make the most of your flask. When customizing your flask, make sure you understand what you are doing.
4. Your Mind attributes can be boosted
Mind, an attribute that has a major influence on FP is the same as MP or Mana in other titles. A character’s focus pool is a measure of how powerful they are able to cast spells before needing to recharge. It also affects the Focus Body Stat which, in turn, increases a player’s resistance against Sleep and Madness effects.
To cast certain spells you will need to have a high Mind level. Summoning requires a minimum of FP. You should ensure that you have a balanced set of stats, and that you don’t over-expand any. Keep the bar full so that you’re ready for your next encounter. The higher your Mind level, the less you will need to refill the bar.
